Position Title: Senior Test Engineer

Background:

Firecomms (www.firecomms.com) is a high-tech optoelectronics company with management, product design, product verification and sales functions located in Ireland and manufacturing in China; sales are made worldwide. Firecomms offers a range of optical transceivers, fibre and components for use in industrial, medical and consumer/utility applications. Our products include both standard transceiver modules as well as specialized/custom designed solutions developed in close collaboration with our customers. Firecomms’ capability includes the design and manufacture of light emitting devices, mixed- signal analog ICs as well as the optical and mechanical design of housings and packages.

Firecomms is looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join the team in Cork, Ireland on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will work on the test and characterisation of next generation optoelectronic modules for systems used in consumer, industrial and medical applications worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

The engineer will be expected to:

  • Ensure that components meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements and international standards.
  • Research product requirements and then develop a bench char plan to validate performance over the necessary process, voltage, or temperature variants.
  • LabView and/or Python software development to supply stimulus, capture & process responses from the device.
  • Debug of silicon issues to root cause.
  • Execute test cases, analyse results and generation of reports on silicon performance for the product development team.
  • Work closely with design and product engineering teams to successfully release products to manufacturing.
  • PCB Design to allow identified measurements and characterisation to be made.
  • Undertake test characterisation and validation of electro-optical devices including driver and receiver ICs, LEDs, Lasers, photo-detectors and electro-optical transceivers.
  • Mentor junior test engineers.

Candidate should have the following education, experience and skills:

Education: BE or BSc in Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • 5+ years experience in a relevant technical position that demonstrates the candidate’s capabilities and performance.
  • Experience in high-speed IC Test, Characterisation or Validation within a lab environment.
  • Automation of the acquisition of characterisation / measurement data.
  • High speed PCB design.
  • Hands-on test, measure and debug skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Analytical and data interpretation skills.

Desired Skills: Preference will be given to candidates with as many as possible of these capabilities:

  • Strong understanding of the fundamental digital and analog circuit function.
  • Strong written and verbal skills. Able to effectively communicate technical details to internal peers and external vendors.
  • Experience of lab automation packages e.g. Labview, Python, C++ or equivalent.
  • Delivery of production test solution for production test platforms.
  • Technical competency and analytical skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of high-speed PCB layout and ability to perform layout and design in a known PCB/CAD package.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and packaging.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor production test.
  • SMT manufacturing.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and team members.

Reporting:

The Senior Test Engineer will report to the IC Design Manager of Firecomms Ireland.
